Tattoo Aftercare Instructions
Please read and follow these aftercare instructions carefully. Good aftercare helps reduce the risk of infection and supports the best healed result. Healing varies from person to person.
Straight After Your Appointment
Your tattoo will be cleaned and covered before you leave. Keep the covering on for the time advised by Lisney Tattoo. If you are told otherwise for your specific tattoo, follow the artist’s instructions first. Before touching your tattoo, wash your hands thoroughly.
First Wash
- Wash your hands first.
- Gently clean the tattoo using lukewarm water.
- Use a mild, fragrance-free cleanser only if advised.
- Do not scrub the area.
- Pat dry gently with a clean paper towel or clean towel.
- Do not rub.
Moisturising
Apply a very thin layer of the aftercare product recommended by Lisney Tattoo. Do not over-apply. Too much product can clog the area and affect healing. Only use products recommended by the artist or products suitable for fresh tattoos.
What You Should Expect
- Redness
- Mild swelling
- Tenderness
- Itching
- Light flaking
- Light scabbing or crusting
- Some clear fluid or small traces of ink during the first day
The tattoo will usually go through a heal, peel, and fade stage before the settled result appears. Swelling, crusting, and later fading or softening of the colour can be a normal part of healing.
Do Not
- Pick, peel, or scratch the tattoo.
- Let other people touch the tattoo.
- Soak the tattoo in a bath.
- Go swimming.
- Use hot tubs, jacuzzis, or saunas.
- Expose the tattoo to direct sun or sunbeds.
- Wear tight or abrasive clothing over the area.
- Shave over the tattoo until fully healed.
- Use heavily perfumed creams or harsh products on the area.
Showering, Exercise, And Daily Care
You may shower, but avoid very hot water, avoid direct high-pressure water on the tattoo, do not soak the tattoo, and keep the shower short while the tattoo is fresh.
Avoid heavy sweating, gym sessions, and friction on the area for at least the first 24 to 48 hours, and longer if advised for the placement.
Swimming And Sun
Do not swim or use pools, hot tubs, jacuzzis, or saunas until the tattoo has fully healed. Do not expose the tattoo to direct sun until fully healed. Once healed, use a high-protection sunblock to reduce fading.
Healing Time
Most tattoos settle on the surface within around 7 to 14 days, but full healing can take longer depending on the person, the size of the tattoo, the placement, and how closely aftercare advice is followed. The final settled appearance may take several weeks.
Signs Of Infection Or A Problem
Seek medical advice promptly if you notice increasing redness spreading around the tattoo, severe swelling, worsening pain after the first couple of days, yellow or green discharge, bad smell, fever, hot skin around the tattoo, red streaking, or any reaction that seems severe or unusual.
Touch-Ups
Some tattoos, body areas, and skin types heal differently. A touch-up may be needed after healing. Do not request a touch-up until the tattoo is fully healed. Any touch-up policy remains subject to Lisney Tattoo’s booking terms and any exclusions for difficult healing areas.
